Trinity Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer shawl ministry is a growing from of pastoral care throughout our church community. With the understanding that shawls and lap blankets do, in fact bring warmth and comfort, it seemed to be a natural addition to the ongoing ministries already at work within our congregation.

To date, 1141 shawls and lap blankets (and even pet blankets) have been crafted, infused with healing energy, blessed by the congregation and delivered to a wide variety of people, living in many places. We are thrilled to say that our shawls and blankets have been sent all over Canada, to the United States, to England and Scotland, and as far as Australia, Norway, and Thailand!

We have a great number of crafters willing to knit and crochet for us. The wool has been purchased with funds donated for this purpose. A basket of pre-packaged wool (with instructions) is placed in the entranceway of the sanctuary every week. Everyone is encouraged to participate, as they are able.

We have formed a Prayer Shawl Ministry group, which meets the last Tuesday of each month at 1:30 pm in the Lower Parlour. This time is set aside for knitting/crocheting together, prayer, tips on instructions and technique, conversation and teatime! Everyone is welcome.

We encourage members of the congregation to spread the word about this ministry. There are no restrictions as to whom may receive a shawl or blanket. Our ministry objective is to reach as far as possible, providing comfort and blessing to anyone in need. Do you know someone who would benefit from this kind of comfort? We encourage you to think broadly-shawls and blankets are suitable for just about any situation: illness, grief, pregnancy and birth; baptism, marriage, a special birthday or occasion.

If you have a special request for colour or texture or for consideration of an allergy, just pop in or call Valerie Morrell or Rev Elizabeth Eberhart Moffat and we will certainly try to meet your needs.

The congregation has been delighted with this growing ministry- it is a blessing to us as it has been for those receiving the shawls and blankets.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support this ministry with your prayers, your blessings and your contributions!
